About Prof. Xavier Haro-Carrión: I am a land change scientist interested in the analysis of human-environment interactions. My strength for such analyses relies on the use of remote sensing techniques to evaluate changes of vegetation and land-cover at different spatial and temporal scales. I am also interested in forest and biodiversity conservation, particularly in fragmented landscapes. While I conduct most of my research in Ecuador, I consider the Neotropics my geographic focus of research. I consider land change analysis a point of intersection between various disciplines such as ecology, biology, human geography, sociology, anthropology and economics. As such, I tend to conduct my research within interdisciplinary groups to have a more complete understanding of the systems I study. My goal is to contribute to a better understanding of land change processes in rapidly changing environments. |
